ABSTRACT
TEACHING VOCABULARY BY USING PICTURES TO THE SEVENTH GRADE
STUDENTS OF THE STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 19 OF PALEMBANG

The problem of this study was formulated as follows: “Is it effective
teaching vocabulary by using
pictures
to the seventh grade
students of the state Junior High School 19 of Pelembang”?. Therefore, the objective of this study was to find
out whether or not it is effective teaching
vocabulary by using pictures to the seventh grade students of the state Junior
High School 19 of Palembang.
The method used in this study was pre-experimental
method. The population of this study was all of the seventh grade students at Junior High
School 19
of Palembang
in
the academic year 2013/2014 with total number 320 students. The sample of this study was 40 students taken through convenient non random
sampling to took one (VII.6)
as the sample. In collecting the data, the writer used a written test and then,
the data was analyzed by using percentage analysis and matched t-test.
Based on the data analysis from the test, it found
that it was effective to teach vocabulary
by using pictures to the seventh grade students of the state Junior High School 19 of Palembang. The average score
of students’ post-test was
87.81 and pre-test score was 70.23. The result of matched t-test was 10.04. It was higher than critical value
of t-table 1.684.
It indicate that the null hypothesis is rejected and automatically the
alternative hypothesis was
accepted. It means that it was effective to teach vocabulary by using pictures
to the seventh grade
students of the state Junior High School 19 of Palembang.
